Island Dreamin’

Nanette Lepore’s Spring/Summer ‘12 line is to die for - the pieces are so bright and colourful and scream summer and vacation. I’m still dreaming of an island vacation and these Tempo Print Shorts are the perfect base for an ‘island dreaming’ outfit. I probably (actually, I definitely am not) daring enough to wear a crop top but a girl can dream. Nanette’s shorts pair perfectly with this Lace Corset Style Crop Top because of the higher rise of the shorts - it leaves for a smaller midriff, perfect for those who are a little wary of the daring trend. There’s nothing better than classic pieces and H&M’s denim jacket is definitely one of them - it goes with almost everything, including this outfit. Throw on a pair of white sandals and some simple gold jewelry, like this Gold Bow Necklace from American Eagle and bangles from Banana Republic.

Tropical Paradise

I’m in the midst of planning a vacation with my roommates - kind of our last hurrah for finishing university before we (are supposed to, anyways) are diving into full-time jobs. I’m thinking about a tropical paradise and being able to walk around in flip flops and shorts tanning all day, everyday. These Magdalena Print shorts scream tropical paradise and summer vacation. I paired it with a lighter pink Raindrop Lace top from J.Crew - the textile is so light and airy and would be perfect for a dinner on the beach. For a cooler island breeze, throw on a bright cream coloured boyfriend fit blazer. Finish the look off with white American Eagle Cross Sandals and some beachy jewelry - a beach pendant necklace, sea style bracelet, and beach bum bracelet.

Neon Flare

Now, I’m not one to have a whole lot of colour in my wardrobe but I’m definitely trying to brighten it up. To be honest, I started “brightening” my wardrobe with white pants - it seems pretty simple but I was instantly addicted (I actually have two pairs of the exact same pants and they’re my absolute favourite). I love coloured denim, which was the inspiration for this outfit. I picked out these neon pink True Religion jeggings - True Religion has amazing denim and I love the neon pink colour. I paired this Nanette Lepore First Dance Blazer, which has an amazing speckled paint-esque pattern, with a vibrant purple T.Babaton Second Skin Racerback Tank. The colour palette is so vibrant and perfect for the summer. I finished the look off with a nude wedge and a neon green ‘The Fluoro’ bag by The Cambridge Satchel Company. I love the added contrast and colour that the neon green adds to the outfit. A pop of colour is a must need in the closet for this summer!

Leather Luxury

I don’t care what my boyfriend says - I mean, I truly do honour his opinion and take what he says to heart but sometimes, he just doesn’t get my fashion sense - I love leather leggings. I always have loved leather leggings, especially Wilfred’s High Waisted Leather Leggings. They’re not something that can be pulled off with anything but I think they look best and the most casual with an oversized sweater. I don’t mean big, baggy and ugly. I mean oversized in an attractive and fashionable way. Leather leggings can be pretty edgy and a sweater brings down the edge a bit. T.Babaton’s colour blocked Kate Loose Knit Sweater pairs perfectly with the leather leggings. It’s loose fit keeps it comfy and it drapes perfectly over the higher waistline. I kept this look simple with a pair of over-the-knee brown riding boots and a structured J.Crew purse that has the same colour tone as the T.Babaton sweater.

Fashionable Comfort

I have to say, I hate when people walk around in baggy grey sweats and claim that they are only wearing them because they’re “super comfortable”. I never realized that comfortable and unfashionable were synonymous. Just because it’s Saturday, you have the day off, and you want to be comfortable doesn’t mean that you have to look like a hobo (hobo is not the new boho)!
I used to work at Aritzia and it’s been brutal since I quit - I mean, I’m totally in love with everything they have to offer, yet can’t seem to bite the bullet on that price tag. I have to admit though, they do have amazing pieces that are comfortable, yet fashionable (I know, gasp!). These Wilfred Lille Pants are made with a lightweight, drapey lyocell fabric in a robins egg blue colour, which is perfect for spring. These have a slightly higher waist, so it is easily paired with a body con tank. The Perfect-Fit tank from J.Crew is great for this - they come in so many colours and they’re cost effective, as well. Wilfred’s Flaubert Sweater is long and comfortable, yet still slightly fitted and definitely fashionable. You get the comfort of a sweater without looking like an absolute fashion disaster. Pair it with some tan brogues and you’re set for a casual and comfortable Saturday.

Silk & Wool

I’m looking out my window and it is currently snowing. Might I also add that it is April 23rd out and a month ago it was so hot I could have been working on my tan in my backyard. Anyways, the weather has me curled up under a blanket and channelling a little fall/winter inspiration. I always love wearing girly shorts, even in the winter - you just have to know how to rock it! I picked these high waisted silk shorts because they’re so light and flowy and remind me of spring textiles even when it’s not so hot out. I paired it with this Le Fou by Wilfred Masako Sweater - the multi-colour fabric and light wool is a perfect match for the black silk shorts. I layered a pair of slightly opaque black tights under the shorts for the chillier weather and kept the shoe simple with a pair of black suede booties. For a pop of colour, I matched a pink leather crossbody purse with a chain strap by MICHAEL Michael Kors - just the right size to hold the essential items!

Girls Night Out

I instantly fell in love with Pink Tartan’s feather skirt when I saw it in person at the runway show last Spring at the Fall/Winter 2011 Fashion Week in Toronto. I always said I wanted it but was never sure how I would style it. I figured I would use my blog as a way to showcase how I would style a feather skirt for a girls night out look. There’s so much going on with this skirt - it has so much body and texture, which is amazing, but it made it so I wanted to keep the rest of the outfit more simple. Floral prints are right on point for the summer weather, so this fitted floral printed corset pairs perfectly with the full bodied skirt. I paired it with a cropped bright coral blazer; it’s one of my new favourite colours, especially for the summer! I kept the jacket short so it would interfere with the statement skirt. I finished the look off with a set of gold bangles and a pair of nude slingback pumps to elongate the leg - I think nude pumps are the perfect shoe because they go with almost everything and make the legs look long and gorgeous. Girls night outs are always a great time and the perfect opportunity to get all dolled up.

Feelin’ Fresh!

It took me a while to get on the maxi dress trend but once I did, I couldn’t get enough! I was inspired by this turquoise maxi skirt from Mango, which I paired with a sleeveless peach blouse - perfect for the warmer spring weather. One of my favourite spring accessories are fedoras and this straw fedora from Forever21 is just right! If you’re short, like me, then pairing a long maxi skirt with a pair of nude wedges can add just the right amount of height and help you not be so overwhelmed by the long skirt. The peach clutch from Topshop matches the blouse perfectly and the pastel is great for spring. Finally, accessorize with some chain link jewellery for texture and a little somethin’ extra - I love these pink and gold bracelets and this chain link necklace. I can’t wait until it’s a bit warmer out so I can finally pull the maxi dresses from my closet!

Springtime Ready!

I recently purchased this Twill long sleeve wrap dress, which is perfect for the spring weather; I’m in love with coral and this dress is perfect (I’m secretly hoping it’ll come in time for the wedding at the end of April so I have something new to wear)!

As a side note, I used to love writing on this blog: it was a place for me to showcase my ideas, thoughts, and outfit ideas but somewhere along the way I stopped writing so much and I really do miss it. I’m going to try and put in a solid effort and try to keep this up to date and more focussed on what I originally started it for. But, back to spring!

These colour block wedge sandals are perfect for the spring - the trend is hot right now and they’re surprisingly comfortable. Because this dress is so simple (which is a good thing!), accessorizing is a must and so simple! I love aqua enamel printed hinge bangles in bright spring colours, this cream coloured wrap watch and this turquoise wood effect ring. Throw on a pair of tortoise shell sunnies and grab a cream envelope clutch, and you’re good to go. A couple of bright and chunky accessories go perfectly with a simple spring!
